The area available for the test has allowed the use of approx. 200m polyethylene pipeline buried under 1m of argillaceous soil. The leakage simulation was achieved by hot water injection in the soil through several valves at different positions along the pipe.
Aim of monitoring:
The main aim of the Pra-Oil Leakage detection test was to demonstrate the feasibility relative to easy integration of this kind of innovative leakage detection system based on distributed fiber optic technology
Main results:
The Smartec sensing cable was able to detect any simulated leakage, by localizing every single temperature variation within different border conditions.
