The DiTeSt BOTDR SR is a breakthrough in distributed strain sensing, as it is the new entry level interrogator sized to meet increasing demand for fiber optic distributed sensing. The DiTeSt BOTDR SR – Brillouin Optical Time Domain Reflectometry – exhibits cost and performance optimized for maximum length of distributed sensing cable up to 5 km; thus enabling implementation of DiTeSt technology for small to medium scale monitoring projects.
Distributed fiber optic sensing provides measurement every meter along the entire sensing cable; this is particularly important in such cases where the location of defects cannot be predicted, and localized instrumentation is therefore useless.
The DiTeSt BOTDR SR analyses the backscattered light in a singlemode fiber (SMF) in the so-called single-end configuration; with access to only one end of the fiber. DiTeSt technology uses a pulsed light to enable localization along the monitored fibers. Spectral analysis of the scattered light provides the Strain and Temperature information along the monitored fibers.
Distributed fiber optic sensing cables are relatively easy to deploy. Special care shall however be taking relative to cable selection and installation; DiTeST compatible strain sensing cables are proposed; SMARTape II, SMARTProfile II and Hydro&Geo sensing cables.
The DiView II Graphical User Interface enables real-time visualization and converts raw data in frequency measurements to strain and temperature real data. DiView II automatically triggers pre-warnings and alarms on strain level thresholds set by the user. Data are exportable to .txt files for integration in third party monitoring platforms.
